After the race…..
We headed back to the hotel for a shower and a nap! We set the alarm so we didn’t sleep the day away. The sun had came out and it was turning into a beautiful day.
We headed to the Wharf and got some Sourdough bread from Boudin Bakery while we headed for our boat tour. The boat tour took us under the Golden Gate Bridge, past Alcatraz, and along the coastline. We wore headphones and listened to a program giving the history of the area. It was really interesting and I wish I could remember more of the details.
From the tour, we headed to dinner at Pier 39 at Bubba Gump’s. It was okay, but nice to look out at the bay while we ate. After dinner we were exhausted from the long day and headed back to the hotel for the night.
The next couple of days we headed to the coast for some relaxation at the beach. It didn’t turn out exactly as planned but we still had a good time together. It was cold and foggy along the beach so we didn’t spend as much time there as we planned.
Tuesday morning we decided to go on a hike in the redwoods. That turned into the scariest drive of my life. I was hyper ventilating I was so scared. The road was narrow, windey, and steep. I was terrified another car would come. I was barely going 5 miles an hour. A truck did come by, but luckily it was the one spot on the entire road with a little spot to pull over. Thank you Jesus!!! We finally made it to the hiking spot, got out and the sign reads: Ticks, Rattlesnakes, and Mountain Lions are common in the area. And proceeded to say what to do when faced with a mountain lion. Ummm, yeah, No Thanks! It’s my mom and I, and we would have no clue what to do with either a rattlesnake or mountain lion. So we hiked the 50 yards to the outhouse and creek. Took 2 pictures and headed back to the van…..and back on the main road….which was MUCH less scary. Thank you to the hotel that did not mark the map for the crazy road we traveled in on.
After that, we headed back to San Francisco and stayed close to the airport for the night. We looked for some souvenir shops with not much luck, walked around the harbor, and had dinner at the hotel. Nice relaxing ending to the trip. Unforgettable trip. I’m so glad I got to share it with my mom.
Stayed tuned for the summary and what’s next…..
Have you ever traveled on a scary road? My mom had been on the Road to Hana in Hawaii and said the road we were on was scarier. What’s been your favorite running vacation?
