I just want a new bike.

Sigh.  I want to upgrade my bike.

I have a 16 + year old mountain bike.  It’s been good to me.  I rode a lot more before I got married and had kids.  Highlight was a hiking/biking trip to Moab, Utah.  Beautiful place, great memories.  I really want to go back again.  But my bike.  It needs  little a work, new saddle, new grips, and I’m sure a myriad of other things.  I don’t want to put more money into it, so its time for a new one.

I’ve been to 2 bikes shops in my town and contacted another 2 shops 50 miles away.  None of them stock mountain bikes in my size.  Ideally I’d really like to try a men’s bike and a women’s specific design since they weren’t around the last time I went bike shopping.

Womens’ specific designs are smaller and lighter with smaller dimensions to fit a woman better.  I have read some reviews where some women with shorter legs and a longer torso still prefer the men’s design.  I am like that so I’d really like to be able to check them both out.

Currently I’m at a loss as to what to do next.  None of the stores show any interest in getting the smaller sizes in, I’m sure there’s not a high demand for them and they don’t want to get stuck with whatever I  don’t choose.    There’s also no Demo’s within 2 hours of me.  I really don’t have the time for awhile to make a trip to Kansas City which I’m hoping would have something since it’s a big city.  I have some adventure races coming up in the next month and wanted to get something before then.

What’s a girl to do?  Any advice?
