Cold Run - Adventure Wenches

Cold Run 1

I ran my first below 30 degree run yesterday.

It was early, it was dark, and it was cold.  It was 14 degrees.

I don’t have a lot of cold weather running gear.  I started running this May so haven’t needed until recently.  November was pretty mild, and I got in quite a few days in the 50′s!

December has seen more of the elliptical – since that we have at home.  I’d been wanting to attempt an outdoor run, but needed some tights for starters.  I finally made it to Scheels’ to get some. (Well, twice since I took the first pair back.)  I ended up with Under Armour ColdGear Compression Tights.

Something like this…

Sheri came over at 6:30 and we headed out.  I have some old ski stuff from years (and years) ago, so that’s what I wore.  I wore my compressions socks with another pair over.  Cuddle duds thermal, Nike long sleeve, a fleece jacket, and my old ski/snowboarding jacket.  And my ski gloves and Neck Gater/Warmer which I love!   I need to buy some for my kids.

Upper body was warm! Hands were sweaty!   However, I need another bottom layer if it’s that cold.  From my knees to hips, I was frozen.    We were only out for about 30 minutes so not bad.

We made it! Still dark!

We made it! Still dark!

Someday I would like:

Yaktrax – for not slipping and falling on the snow and ice.

New running jacket -

running gloves

another pant layer

But what I have will do for now.

I’ll be out there again.  I really enjoyed the fresh air and being outdoors despite the cold.

Do you run in the cold?  What’s your favorite cold weather gear item?
